Legend of the Seven Sisters and Devils Tower

There are a couple stories about Devils Tower. This in my favorite.

Once upon a time, in the vast plains of what is now known as the United States, there lived a tribe of Kiowa Indians. Amongst this tribe, there were seven little girls who were inseparable and shared a bond that went beyond words. They were known as the Seven Sisters, admired by all for their grace, innocence, and adventurous spirits.

One sunny afternoon, as the Seven Sisters ventured out to play, their laughter echoed through the hills. Little did they know that their playful innocence would catch the attention of several giant bears, who roamed the land with a ferocious hunger.

As the bears spotted the girls, they let out a thunderous roar and began their chase. Fear gripped the hearts of the Seven Sisters as they raced across the plains, their feet pounding against the earth. Desperate to escape, they sought refuge in prayer, calling upon the Great Spirit for help.

Moved by their pure hearts and unwavering faith, the Great Spirit answered their plea. Suddenly, the ground beneath the girls began to tremble and shake, as if responding to their prayers. Slowly, it rose towards the heavens, lifting the Seven Sisters higher and higher.

The bears, in their relentless pursuit, reached the towering rock that had emerged from the ground. Filled with determination, they tried to climb the rock, clawing at its sides with all their might. But their efforts were in vain, for the rock stood strong, allowing only deep claw marks as a testament to their futile attempts.

Meanwhile, the girls soared higher, their hearts filled with both awe and relief. They looked down upon the earth they once knew, their home, and the bears left behind. It was then that the Great Spirit transformed the girls into a constellation, forever immortalizing their bond and bravery in the night sky.

From that day forward, the Seven Sisters became a guiding light for travelers and dreamers alike. Their constellation, known as the Pleiades, twinkled with a celestial beauty, reminding all who looked up of the power of faith and the strength found in unity.

And so, the legend of the Seven Sisters and Devils Tower became etched in the hearts of the Kiowa people, passing down through generations. It serves as a reminder that even in the face of danger, with unwavering faith and the unity of kindred spirits, one can rise above and become a beacon of light for all to see.
